MY mom was an artist and at some point in her life, she simply stopped painting. Whether it was lack of interest, or that tiny, incessant voice in the back of your head telling you that you aren't any good, she stopped painting. And it infuriated me, because I knew she was talented and that she could touch someone with her art.
Flash forward about thirty years and I've been laid off again. Monique, my wife, is an incredible woman and she pushed and challenged me to do something with my art skills. It was then that I realized I was doing the same thing mom did - other than a random sketch, I hadn't really done any artwork in the last thirty years.
So now we have Pathetic Kitty, Sir Neville, Quentin Meriwether III, and a host of others gracing mugs, shirts and the like. I supply the artwork, my wife the design elements, and both of us work on the messaging. It really is a wonderful collaboration and we bring out the best in each other.
The messaging is what is most important to us. Our best seller and most resonant design is the "Families Come In All Shapes & Sizes" - Everyone has a family, and every family has its oddballs, dark sheep and the like. When it comes to families, abnormal is the normal. We hope you enjoy our efforts, and we look forward to changing the world in some tiny, immeasurable way that leaves this a slightly better place by the time we leave. We are all the same, and we all want the same things - to be loved, to love, be accepted, respected, and grow old safely. Let's learn from our four-legged companions and start making humans respectable again. |
